The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) fired warning shots to a group of Palestinians near Gaza border on Friday.

"Earlier today, 300 Palestinians approached the southern border fence along the Gaza Strip at a number of different locations, began rioting and damaging the fence," a military spokesman told Xinhua. "IDF forces in the area acted to distance the rioters from the fence."

The spokesman said that Israeli soldiers initially fired warning shots in the air, then towards the Palestinians' legs when some of them attempted to breach the barrier and enter Israeli territory.

Israel troops detained one Palestinian man who crossed into Israel. He was later released and returned to the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian source claimed that one Palestinian was killed and 23 others wounded, but Israeli army said it currently has no knowledge of casualties in the incident.
