Egypt's Court of Cassation and Court of Appeal decided Wednesday to suspend their work until President Mohamed Morsi withdraws the Constitutional Declaration he issued last Thursday.

Considering the declaration encroaching judiciary independence, the Cassation Court's general assembly decided to suspend the work in a decision accepted by the majority of judges, state-run Ahram on-line reported.

President Morsi issued last Thursday a new Constitutional Declaration which rules that all laws, decrees and constitutional declarations issued by the president since he came into office on June 30 are final and unchallengeable by any body, while it will not lead to reinstating the People's Assembly.

The Supreme Judiciary Council held a meeting with President Morsi Monday to discuss the controversy concerning the constitutional declaration. The meeting was followed by a presidential statement which affirms no changes will be made to the declaration and "sovereignty matters" are the only field free of legal review.
