Vietnam's Noi Bai Airport in its capital Hanoi has refused to stamp entry visas into China's new chipped passports, which feature a map of disputed territories, Global Times reports.

Vietnam says the passports and maps "violate its sovereignty" as they "claim the South China Sea as Chinese territory", according to an unidentified official at Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport.

The official says they issue separate visas to Chinese visitors instead.

A border guard in Lang Son province in north Vietnam also says they refuse to stamp Chinese passports.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said he was not aware of Vietnam's refusal.

The Philippines, India and Vietnam all displayed discontent over China's new map.
