Myanmar and Japan signed three grant aid projects on communication networks, food security and non-project grant aid in Nay Pyi Taw Friday, according to press release issued by the Japanese Embassy to Myanmar.

The grant aid projects amounting 2.74 billion yen (31.75 million U.S. dollars) include "Project for Urgent Improvement of Communication Networks", "Food Security Project for Underprivileged Farmers" and "Non-Project Grant Aid", the release said.

Project for Urgent Improvement of Communication Networks will develop the core network of Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay and between those cities in order to deal with the increasing volume of communication and development of communication sector.

Food Security Project for Underprivileged Farmers will provide aid to Agriculture Tractor Stations in Nay Pyi Taw, Ayeyawady, Bago (East) and Yangon as well as four Wheel tractors including attachments and Combine Harvester to the training center in Meiktila, aimed at expanding farmland, increasing agricultural produce and contributing to human resource development and technology transfer for farmers, operators and mechanics.

Non-Project Grant Aid will be used to improve Myanmar's chronic electric shortage that has been one of the major obstacles to the person's life and economic activity.

Meanwhile, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will help Myanmar install the second radar system which will be installed in Yangon, Mandalay and Kyaukphyu, western Rakhine state in early 2013 for upgrading weather forecast work.
