The Kremlin announced Monday that Russia will remember its soldiers who died during World War I on Aug. 1 every year.

The addition to the Federal Law on Days of Military Glory and Remembrance Days came weeks after President Vladimir Putin suggested in his Dec. 12 state-of-the-nation address that the nation create a memorial for Russia's WWI fallen soldiers.

Russia was believed to have about 1.5 million soldiers lost during the 1914-1918 warfare, with some 5 million wounded, the RIA Novosti quoted online historical literature as saying.

The Treaty of Brest Litovsk, signed on March 3, 1918, officially terminated Russia's involvement in the war.
