Pakistan army said that one of its soldiers was killed and another injured in firing by the Indian forces in Kashmir on Sunday.

The army said that Indian troops Sunday morning crossed Line of Control (LoC), which divides the two countries in the disputed Kashmir region, in Haji Pir Sector in Bagh district and raided a Pakistani check post.

"Pakistan Army troops effectively responded and repulsed the attack successfully," said the Inter-Services Public Relations ( ISPR), a mouthpiece of the army.

Two Pakistani army soldiers were critically injured in the firing and one later died of wounds, a statement said.

Indian Army while retreating left behind a gun and a dagger, the ISPR said.

Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the LoC in November 2003. Guns had been relatively silent since then, however border forces sometimes traded fire.

It is the first cross-LoC firing in the new year.

Pakistan and India have fought three wars, two over Kashmir, since their independence in 1947.
