Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy conducted military drills in the Persian Gulf waters as a part of the tactical training for modern warfare initiatives, Press TV reported Sunday.

The exercises aimed to boost combat readiness of the IRGC forces, familiarize them with the latest achievements, increase their response time, ensure well-timed responses to natural and manmade disasters, and allow IRGC forces to operate new weapons, said the report without detailing on when the drills were held.

"Our present capabilities are incomparable to the past. Today, our youth, banking on the past experiences and modern science, have managed to show their capabilities to the world and be prepared for any threat," the IRGC Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Reza Torabi was quoted as saying.

On January 2, Iranian Navy wrapped up its six-day naval drills in the southern waters of the country. In the drills, the navy forces practised swift reactions to unexpected incidents, exercised prompt stretch of the commandoes and military units, carried out rapid transfer of the forces by the helicopters, launched missiles with high precision and destructive powers, and implemented full utilization of communication system, said an Iranian officer.
