A new round of talks between the world powers and Iran will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on February 26, the European Union (EU) announced on Tuesday.

The EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton "hopes that the talks will be productive and concrete progress can be made towards a negotiated solution," said a statement of her office.

This has been the first such meeting between Iran and the so-called P5+1, or the United States, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany since a stalemate in talks in Moscow last June.

Iran has decided to take part in the talks, its official IRNA new agency reported. The decision was made in a phone talks between the top Irannian negotiator Saeed Jalili and Ashton earlier in the day.
