Slovenia has found horsemeat mixed up in beef lasagna sold in local supermarket, a senior government official told reporters here on Tuesday.

Following a recent horsemeat food contamination scandal in some European countries, Slovenian food security authorities have checked all products in different retailers that could potentially contain horsemeat.

Of all 29 products tested at the National Veterinary Institute, 28 tested negative for horsemeat, while one sample was found positive in the testing, said Jernej Drofenik, acting director general of the Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection Administration.

The sample in question is a 450-gram beef lasagna, manufactured by Trada, a company in Luxembourg, distributed by Croatian company Ledo, and found in local retailer Interspar, according to the official.

Further analyses are under way, he added.

The scandal erupted across Europe after horsemeat was found in food products such as burgers and lasagna while being mislabeled as beef, thus triggering alarms of food scrutiny and raising food security concerns in the continent.
