Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III, along with the Filipino people, joined Tuesday the international community in extending his deepest sympathy to those who have lost loved ones in the bombing of the Boston Marathon.

"The president personally conveys a message of deep sympathy, concern, and solidarity with the people of Boston, where he and his family had found refuge during martial law, and which so many Filipinos call home," deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

She said the Philippine government condemns those who have cast such a pall of loss and suffering in the city of Boston and the entire United States.

Valte said the Filipino people offer their prayers and best wishes for their recovery of those who were injured in the incident.

Two bombs struck near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, leaving at least 3 people killed and 140 others wounded, with at least 17 of them in critical condition and 25 in serious condition.

The Boston Marathon is an annual celebration of the human spirit: of endurance, friendly competition, and community celebration.
