A 6.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Japan at around 5:57 p.m. local time on Wednesday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The epicenter was initially determined at 34.1 degree north latitude, 139.4 degree east longitude, with a depth of 20 km.

The quake was registered upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 at the Miyake Island, about 100 km south of Tokyo.

No tsunami warnings were issued as of now.

A series of temblors with magnitude of 4.4 to 4.7 hit the island area on Wednesday, and the JMA said there were no signs of volcanic activity.
