At least nine people were killed in an attack on a village in Nigeria's central north Niger State, local police said on Thursday.
State police spokesperson Richard Oguche told reporters in Minna, the state capital, that nine persons were killed in Kushaka village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger.
Oguche said preliminary report on the incident had indicated that the villagers were killed by Fulani herdsmen.
The police officer said the village, located on the border between Niger and Kaduna states, was attacked at about 1 a.m, local time on Wednesday.
He said the command had deployed mobile policemen to the area to investigate the matter and prevent re-occurrence.
