Egyptian protesters belonging to revolutionary forces and movements and political parties on Tuesday set Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in Gharbiya governorate ablaze, State-run Ahram Website reported.
All the files and components of the headquarters were totally burnt out, the report said, adding that civil protection forces and security forces have immediately moved to the scene to control the fire but in vain.
No casualties have been reported yet.
Some protesters hurled the building with fire balls which had swollen the entire offices during demonstrations that took place in Tanta city due to appointing Ahmed Al Beyaly, who is affiliated to the ruling Brotherhood, as governor of Gharbiya.
The protesters deemed the appointment as Muslim Brotherhood's increasing desire for the "power and control" over the country's vital posts.
The city streets are still witnessing a state of attack and retreat amid fears of citizens that the fire might reach their houses.
On Sunday, President Mohamed Morsi issued a decree appointing 17 new governors, including seven from the Muslim Brotherhood's ruling Freedom and Justice Party, one from the hardline Islamic group Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya's Construction and Development Party, one from liberal Ghad al-Thawra Party, three independents and five armed forces generals.
The reshuffle increases the number of Islamist-oriented governors to 11 out of 27, including 10 from the Brotherhood and one from Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, raising concerns about Islamist domination of the country.
