Chinese naval ship arrives in Seychelles

At the invitation of the Seychellois government, the "Harbin" guided missile destroyer of the 14th Chinese naval escort taskforce under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) arrived in the Port of Victoria of Seychelles yesterday to attend the military parade on the celebration of the national day of Seychelles.

The day June 18 of 2013 marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Third Republic of Seychelles, when the country will hold a grand military parade distinctive in its history. A square formation composed of 65 soldiers from the Chinese "Harbin" guided missile destroyer is to attend the National Day Military Parade upon invitation of the Seychelles government. This is the first time for a foot-marching square of the PLAN to take part in military parade abroad.

According to sources, the militaries of some countries including Russia, France and India have been also invited to take part in the national day military parade of Seychelles.

An officer of the 14th Chinese naval escort taskforce told PLA Daily that during the days the "Harbin" destroyer takes part in the Seychelles' national day military parade activities, the "Mianyang" guided missile frigate and the "Weishan Lake" supply ship, which are the other two warships of the 14th Chinese naval escort taskforce, will continue to fulfill the escort missions of merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast.
