Five people were killed and seven others injured in a suicide car bombing Saturday morning in Jalalabad, capital of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, sources said.

"Two policemen, two civilians and the attacker were killed after the militant rammed his explosive-laden sedan to the front gate of the city police station at around 8:00 a.m. local time," the provincial government said in a statement.

The injured including five police and two civilians were shifted to a hospital in the city, 120 km east of Kabul, it added.

The blast also damaged several vehicles and buildings around the scene.

The incident came as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is paying visit to the war-torn county.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but the Taliban insurgent group was likely behind such attacks.

Earlier on Saturday, Afghan Interior Ministry said that 14 militants had been killed, eight wounded and five arrested in different military operations conducted by Afghan security forces and NATO-led coalition troops in five provinces in the past 24 hours.
