Tourist robbed of money, personal belongings in N. Kenya

Armed gangsters robbed a tourist and other Kenyan passengers of their personal belongings including money in Samburu county in northern Kenya late on Saturday.

The middle aged man with duo citizenship of Australia and South Africa was attacked by armed men who stole unknown amount of money and his personal belongings worth millions of shillings.

The authorities confirmed that the man who was identified as an engineer traveling from Maralal to Lonyangalani Marsabit County aboard a truck which broke down on its way when he was robbed by thugs.

Security officials said the thugs went away with camera, 600 U. S.dollars, mobile phone and other valuable items.

Samburu County Commissioner Wilfred Nyangakwa said Sunday the police have launched investigation into the attack to apprehend the suspects.

"We have deployed police officers to help in trucking down the thugs who robbed the tourist and other passengers on board the truck," said the commissioner.

Passengers aboard the truck suspect that the attack was planned because truck started developing mechanical problem in the middle of the forest.

They appealed to the police to step up patrols along the Samburu highway in order to address highway robbery.
