In a shocking incident, some 93 school girls have been allegedly sexually molested by a group of unidentified men on a moving train in the eastern Indian state of Bihar late Sunday night, a senior police official said Monday.
"The school girls, accompanied by their teachers, were allegedly molested by the accused when they boarded a train at 10 p.m. (local time) from Patna railway station to return to their home state of Jharkhand after participating in a two-day environmental workshop," he said, on condition of anonymity.
The group of men, who forcefully occupied the girls' reserved seats allegedly molested the females on the train for nearly four hours, he said, adding that a massive manhunt has been launched to track down the culprits.
Women rights activists say that females are not safe in India even if they are in groups.
Last year, the fatal and brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old medical student by six men on a moving bus in the Indian capital sparked massive protests and forced the government to bring in stricter laws for sexual offenders.
