Russia successfully test-fired  a Topol RS-12M missile  from the Kapustin Yar test range near the Caspian Sea to the Sary Shagan range in Kazakhstan, Russian Defense Ministry said.  

"The aim of the launch was to test a promising intercontinental ballistic missile payload," said the defense ministry.

The missile was lauched amid the ongoing Ukraine crisis, with western countries condemning Russia's intervention and Russia condemning the coup in Ukraine and blaming western countries for complicating the already tumultuous situation in Ukraine.
