A pulse signal that could be from the black box of missing flight MH370 has been detected 2km from the initial detection area by Australia Sunday, according to a press conference hosted by the Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) in Australia.

Former Defence Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Houston, who is heading the JACC, said Australian vessel the Ocean Shield is investigating an “acoustic noise” about 300 nautical miles from the signals picked up by the Chinese vessel. But it is still to be established whether the signal is related to the missing jet.

This comes after Chinese ship the Haixun 01 detected pulse signal late yesterday, which is also not confirmed as related to the missing MH370.

Houston described the signal detected by China as “an important and encouraging lead” but urged caution until anything could be confirmed.
