U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns reaffirmed the United States' "strong" security commitment to the Republic of Korea (ROK), the State Department said Tuesday.

Burns made the commitment while meeting with Cho Tae-yong, First Vice Foreign Minister of ROK, in Washington D.C. Tuesday as part of the strategic dialogue of the two countries, said a statement issued by the State Department.

The officials exchanged views on recent developments in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Burns emphasized that the U.S. and ROK will continue to coordinate closely in their efforts toward the denuclearization of the DPRK, according to the statement.

They had productive discussions on a broad range of bilateral, regional, and global issues, reflecting the "strength and breadth" of U.S. alliance with ROK, it said.
