Syrian government troops killed at least 37 rebels on Wednesday, local media and activists said.

Eight rebels were killed during clashes with the Syrian troops in the vicinity of the 90th Brigade in the Naba al-Sakher area and the countryside of Qunaitera province in southern Syria, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based watchdog group.

Meanwhile, the official SANA news agency said the Syrian troops on Wednesday eliminated 18 "terrorists" from the so-called Islamic Front, an alliance of six powerful Islamic rebel groups, and the Islam Army, another jihadist group, in the town of Mesraba in the Damascus' sprawling eastern suburb of Douma.

Another ten rebels were killed by the army in Damascus' northern Industrial Adra city, SANA said.

Wednesday's violence is part of the country's more than three- year-old crisis, which has killed more than 100,000 people and displaced millions of others.
