Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Joko Widodo on his election as Indonesia's new president while expressing willingness to join hands with the president-elect to advance ties between China and Indonesia.

In a message sent on Wednesday, Xi said he believes that, under Joko's leadership, Indonesia is bound to make new progress in the country's development and national rejuvenation.

Both as major developing countries in Asia, China and Indonesia share broad common interests at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels, Xi said, adding that China has been prioritizing Indonesia in its neighborhood diplomacy and regarding it as a reliable partner.

Highlighting that the ties between the two countries are at the best time in history and both sides are facing unprecedented opportunities for development, Xi said he is willing to work with Joko to advance the ties for the benefit of the two countries and peoples, and to make greater contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world at large.

Joko, governor of Indonesian capital Jakarta, won the July 9 presidential election with 53.15 percent of the vote, according to Indonesia's General Election Commission.
