Myanmar president meets Chinese FM

Myanmar President U Thein Sein met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the President's Office on Monday to discuss challenges and opportunities to enhance bilateral relations.

U Thein Sein said Myanmar and China have a deep traditional paukphaw (fraternal ) friendship. Close contacts between their leaders have helped the two countries to maintain a high degree of strategic mutual trust, while comprehensive practical cooperation have boosted the development of Myanmar. The friendly people-to- people exchange have further consolidated the friendship between the two countries.

As it is currently pushing for national reconciliation, stability and development, Myanmar sincerely thanked China for its genuine support, the president said. Myanmar also wishes that China would help develop agriculture, establish industrial zones, enhance infrastructural construction, such as roads and ports and promote economic cooperation in Myanmar-China border areas.

Myanmar side will actively participate in building Bangladesh- China-India-Myanmar economic corridor, he said.

For his part, Wang Yi said China and Myanmar have all along supported and helped each other, shared weal and woe and become good friends and good partners.

As they are facing the arduous task of national development and revival and cherishing common aspiration, the two countries should implement in real earnest the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President U Thein Sein and look into the future and vigorously push forward the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership so as to build a genuine "community of shared destinies," Wang Yi said.

He also stressed the need to maintain high-level exchanges to guide the development of bilateral ties and make a success the building of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar economic corridor to make it a bright spot on the Silk Road Economic Belt.

China would like to encourage Chinese enterprises to come to Myanmar to do businesses, create more jobs and help improve the livelihood of its people, he added.

He also encouraged the Chinese companies to actively participate in the Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone project and make it a new shining example of cooperation of the two countries.

Chinese enterprises are also encouraged to help with connectivity between Myanmar and other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations by using China's advantages in technology, equipment and operation, he said.
