Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao on Monday called on young Japanese politicians to play a positive role in improving China-Japan ties.

Li made the remarks when meeting with a non-partisan delegation of young Japanese politicians, led by Kiyohiko Toyama, a member of the New Komeito Party and also a member of the House of Councilors in the Diet.

Li said China has always attached great importance to relations with Japan and is willing to develop bilateral ties on the basis of the four China-Japan political documents, in the spirit of taking history as a mirror to guide the future.

He said the Japanese side should properly deal with issues concerning history and the Diaoyu Islands and have a correct view of China's development.

Toyama said, as a young councilor, he is willing to make efforts to improve bilateral ties and push forward the relations on the track of friendship, mutual benefit and cooperation.
