China's President Xi Jinping met Ajit Doval, special envoy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday in Beijing.

President Xi says his upcoming trip to India "sends a positive signal to the outside world", regarding relations between the two countries.

"I believe it shows that Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and the Indian government are treating my upcoming trip to India with great importance, and also shows the overall China-India relationship. It also sends a positive signal to the outside world and I appreciate your effort."

Ajit Doval, who is also national security adviser to Modi, delivered a message to Xi Jinping from the Indian Prime Minister.

"Excellency, right from the time that you had a meeting in Fortaleza and when it was decided that you will be visiting India some time in September, Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi was extremely keen that you must visit his home state"

President Xi Jinping's trip to India will begin later this month.
