An official of paramilitary forces, Colonel Tahir, told in a news conference that the security forces arrested some people from the nearby area of the Karachi in a raid on a house.

The paramilitary official revealed that a tunnel was found in the basement of a house which was to be extended upto to a well near the prison.

He said the 45-meter tunnel had been built inside the road and it would enter the jail if 10 meters were dug more. He said an attack on jail was planned from the tunnel to secure the release of militants.

Col Tahir said the suspects had some links inside the jail. He did not disclose number of the arrested suspects and said that some more people were picked from other parts of Karachi.

He said the intelligence agencies had passed on information to the security forces about the plan and the forces carried out the raid in time and frustrated the plan.

"The terrorists had bought the house some time ago and wanted to reach the dangerous terrorists in the jail to set them free."

He said a police officer was the owner of the house and he had sold the house on 14,000,00 rupees while its price was just 300, 000 rupees.

The minister said there are over 100 dangerous prisoners in the jail and paramilitary troops, police and intelligence agents are responsible for the security outside of the prisoners.
