At least two people were killed and 13 others injured late Saturday in clashes between Egyptian police and protesters after a court dropped murder charges against ousted President Hosni Mubarak, the Health Ministry said.

Hundreds of protesters took to the Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo, the epic center of the mass demonstrations that toppled Mubarak in 2011, after the verdict earlier on Saturday. Police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse them.

The death toll may rise as some wounded are still in serious conditions, a Health Ministry spokesman said in a statement.

On Saturday, an Egyptian criminal court dropped its cases against Mubarak and his former interior minister over the killing of protesters during the 2011 protests, which ended his 30-year rule and claimed the lives of 239 protesters.
