European Council President Donald Tusk on Wednesday congratulated on the successful installation of a new Ukraine government, saying it brings hope for furthering needed political and economic reforms.
"I welcomed the stated ambitions of the Ukrainian government to tackle the economic crisis through a robust reform process. I pledged the EU's readiness to continue standing by Ukraine in these efforts," a press release quoted Tusk as saying.
Tusk said he shared EU's concerns over the security and humanitarian situation.
"We agreed on the need to pursue the peace process on the basis of the Minsk agreements. A political settlement must be reached in full respect of Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence," according to the press release, which was posted on the website of the European Council.
Tusk added the European Council will stay seized of this matter and take appropriate action in light of developments. Tusk said he and Ukrainian President Poroshenko agreed to stay in close contact and look for possibilities to meet as soon as possible. Endit
