Police in Nigeria's northeast state of Yobe on Tuesday said three people have been confirmed dead in a suicide bomb attack on a restaurant in Potiskum area of the state.

State police spokesperson Toyin Gbadegesin told reporters that the bomber blew himself and two others at the Alamin Restaurant along Damaturu Road in Potiskum.

He added that the incident occurred around 2.20 p.m. local time on Tuesday, adding that those injured and the dead had been taken to the Potiskum General Hospital.

According to him, 12 others were currently receiving treatment, having sustained injuries from the blast.

Potiskum is the commercial nerve center of Yobe State, which has experienced several suicide bomb attacks since the commencement of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Yobe is one of three Nigerian states put under a state of emergency by President Goodluck Jonathan as an insurgency by Boko Haram group intensified.

The militants are mainly active in the northeast of the country.
