The Sri Lanka Air Force on Saturday carried out a rescue mission to save a Chinese tourist who fell off World's End in Nuwera Eliya, in the island's Central Province, an Air Force official said.

Air Force Spokesman Wing Commander Gihan Seneviratne told Xinhua that a helicopter carrying a four member team of the Air Force Special Forces was deployed to the scene to rescue the tourist who had been hanging off a cliff.

The tourist was airlifted and taken to the Diyatalawa Hospital, in the central highlands of Sri Lanka.

"The tourist had reportedly received only minor injuries and he was holding on to a cliff when the Air Force rescued him," Seneviratne said.
