Lulzim Basha, leader of the opposition Democratic Party, called on Speaker of Parliament Ilir Meta to resign.

"The Albanian people expected more jobs and safety, but differently from what was promised, they have found more unemployment and more insecurity," said Lulzim Basha.

In the speech held in front of protesters, Basha gave arguments for the removal of Meta by mentioning alleged murder attempts ordered by Ilir Meta against two lawmakers of the Parliament, poverty, unemployment, increase of taxes, deterioration of the public safety, and etc.

Ilir Meta, has denied all wrongdoing and has said the allegations are politically motivated.

Meta has been spoken to by prosecutors about the alleged plot, but he has not been charged with any crime.

The protest was peaceful and no incident was marked during its progress.
