U.S.-led forces targeted Islamic State militants in Syria with 16 airstrikes in the past two days and 48 airstrikes against the group in Iraq, the U.S. Department of Defense said.

Airstrikes in Syria's Hasakah and Kobani destroyed 11 tactical units, a checkpoint, eight fighting positions, and vehicles, mortar units, as well as an anti-aircraft artillery weapon, the DOD statement said.

Meanwhile, airstrikes in Iraq's Asad, Huwayjah, Bayji, Mosul, Sinjia, Tal Afar, Fallujah and Ramadi destroyed more than 20 tactical units, 14 fighting positions, seven buildings, six vehicles, three anti-aircraft artillery weapons, and a doze of excavators, staging areas and machine guns.
