U Sein Win Aung, also former Myanmar ambassador to China, made this remark during a recent meeting with a China-Myanmar friendship association.

Aung said Myanmar is grateful for China's support with helping to settle fleeing Myanmar inhibitants, stressing the bombing incident last month will not hurt the friendly relationship between Myanmar and China.

Aung said conflicts in the Kokang area of northern Myanmar has driven large numbers of Myanmar border residents to flee to China for security. He praised China's Yunnan provincial government's act of providing proper settlement for them, adding the local authority has settled over 20,000 Myanmar people and spent over $ 3 million on food aid.

"We are very grateful that China's authorities could accommodate those refugees," Aung told the Global Times.

Aung also mentioned the bombing incident caused by a Myanmar warplane in March. He said the Myanmar government has formally apologized for bombing on Chinese territory, promising such incident will never happen again and will compensate Chinese citizens injured and killed in the incident.

During the meeting, Aung also praised the positive role of the China-initiated Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in improving the livelihood of Asian people.

As for the Myanmar election to be held in 2015, Aung believes no matter what result the election is, the friendship between Myanmar and China won't change.
