The U.S. State Department has approved an arms sale of about 1.879 billion dollars in guidance kits and munitions to Israel to ensure security of Israel and U.S. national interests in the region, According to the Pentagon.

"The proposed sale of this equipment will provide Israel the ability to support its self-defense needs," Pentagon said a statement released Tuesday. "These munitions will enable Israel to maintain operational capability of its existing systems and will enhance Israel's interoperability with the United States." Pentagon notified U.S. lawmakers on Monday about the possible arms sale, which includes 14,500 KMU-556C/B Joint Direct Attack Munitions tail kits built by Boeing, which will be fitted to general purpose bombs. The arms sale also includes 3,000 AGM-114K/ R Hellfire Missiles, 250 AIM-120C Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles, said the statement.

The Bureau of Political-Military Affairs under the U.S. State Department provides policy in terms of security assistance and defense trade and the Congress has 15 days to block the potential sale.
