Ireland on Wednesday launched its new White Paper on Defense to set out the country's defense policy framework for the next decade.

Ireland said the White Paper has set out the defense policy to deal with security challenges, including the defense contribution to international peace and security, based on a forward-looking assessment of the security environment.

"The White Paper sets out the roles that the government has assigned to the Defense Forces and considers associated capability requirements," said Defense Minister Simon Coveney.

He said the White Paper sets out decisions on the replacement of major equipment platforms for the next decade and other priorities for the Army, Air Corps and Naval Service.

"This will guide long-term defense planning," the Irish minister said.

"The approaches in the White Paper reflect the wider defense and security policy framework and the increasingly complex nature of security threats in the world today and the need for a full spectrum comprehensive response," Coveney said.
