Malaysian police said Wednesday that they have arrested eight people with suspected links to the deadly blast in Bangkok last month.

"So far we have arrested 8 people, 4 of them are local. They were arrested for involving in human trafficking activities," deputy police chief Noor Rashid Ibrahim told reporters.

The suspects were arrested in the capital of Kuala Lumpur and the northern state of Kelatan bordering Thailand.

However, Noor Rashid said so far there were no concrete evidence or confessions from the suspects that they were directly involved in the attack.

Malaysian police are working with their Thai counterpart for further investigation, he said. A potential extradition requires evidence from the Thai authorities and has to go through legal process.

Thai media reported that senior Thai police officials have flown to Kuala Lumpur to see the suspects.

Powerful explosions hit the Erawan Shrine in downtown Bangkok over a month ago, killing at least 20 people and injuring more than 120 others.
