Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko won re-election after gaining 83.49 percent of the vote, according to preliminary result released Monday by the Central Election Committee.

Three other candidates each netted single-digit number of the vote.
Leading challenger Tatiana Korotkevich finished second with 4.42 percent of the vote, though she was hoping for 20 percent. She was the first female presidential candidate in Belarus.
Sergei Gaidukevich scored 3.32 percent, followed by Nikolai Ulakhovich with 1.67 percent.
Lukashenko, who was running for his fifth term as president, scored the lowest result in the capital Minsk where 65.58 percent of voters backed him.
The turnout in the presidential election stood at 87.2 per cent, with around 7 million people registered to vote, according the Central Election Committee.
