Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi Monday urged the people to stay dispassionate and calm ahead of the official announcement of the election result.

Speaking to a large crowd of people awaiting outside the headquarters of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Yangon to monitor the result of the just-ended general election on Sunday, Suu Kyi stressed that her party is to march forward with caution without discrimination, putting goodwill on the country.

According to incomplete counting of votes reported by local media, NLD is leading as winner of the election. Suu Kyi, who is NLD chairperson and a parliamentarian, won in the general election securing a seat with the House of Representative in the next parliament.

The official election result is expected to be released by the Union Election Commission later on Monday.

USDP fed 1,122 candidates, while NLD fielded 1,123 in running the election.

A total of 6,038 candidates involving 91 political parties and 310 independent runners competed for more than 1,000 seats at three levels of the parliament in the election.
