The Cameroonian army claimed to have captured 19 suspected Nigerian Islamic sect Boko Haram militants on Monday during a ground and air offensive in Ketta, a town in Cameroon's Far North Region neighboring Nigeria.

One army source told Xinhua on Tuesday over phone that the ground troops of Cameroonian army launched an operation assisted by air raids to the suspected Boko Haram militants.

The offensive, which lasted from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. local time Monday was a success, the source said.

The source said 19 militants in total were captured and the number of militants who were killed is still to be confirmed.

The military action came after a series of attacks and suicide bomb attacks suspected to be done by Boko Haram militants in Far North Region, leaving many civilians killed.
