Russian warplanes strike Syria militants near Turkish borders

Russian warplanes on Wednesday struck the militant groups positions in the northern and northeastern countryside of Syria's northern province of Aleppo, near the Turkish borders, a day after a Russian warplane was downed by the Turkish air force, a monitor group reported.
The strikes concentrated on the towns of Azaz, Bashkoi, Tamura and other areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Russia also carried out strikes against the positions of the Islamic State (IS) positions in the town of Manbej in northeast Aleppo, the UK-based watchdog group added.
The strikes also targeted the Turkmen villages in the northern countryside of the coastal province of Latakia near the Turkish borders.
Tuesday's incident has sparked tension between Ankara and Moscow, which denied the Turkish claims about a violation to the Turkish airspace.
Meanwhile, Syria said that Turkey downed the Russian jet to protect the Turkmen rebels, which Ankara has been backing for a long time.
