Polish prosecutors will uphold a decision not to extradite film director Roman Polanski to the United States, the prosecutor's office informed on Friday.

Prosecutors, who sought the extradition on behalf of the United States, said they would not challenge the court's decision, as they found the court's refusal of extradition "right." No grounds to appeal against it were found.

This decision closes the Polanski case in Poland, meaning he will not be deported to the United States and is free to reside and work in Poland.

The court's decision regarding Polanski's extradition was made on Oct. 30. The Polish court rejected the extradition as "unacceptable" and "unlawful deprivation of one's freedom."

The United States requested the extradition of Polanski in the early 2015. The world-famous director of Polish origin escaped from the United States after he was accused of sexual intercourse with an underage girl in 1977. Since 1978, Polanski has been living in France.
