Police spokesman George Kinoti said the terror suspect slipped through a side door when the security officers raided his house in Majengo residential estate in Mombasa.
"The police today raided a wanted terror suspects' house in Majengo in Mombasa and recovered a G3 rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition, M4 rifle with seven rounds of ammunition and 318 rounds 9mm," Kinoti said.
He said a laptop and 15 mobile phones were also recovered during the Monday evening raid at the suspect's house.
"Hunt for the known suspect who had slipped through a side door before the police arrived is underway and widened to all his known associates," Kinoti added.
The incident comes after the police in December released names and pictures of 11 terror suspects they believe are planning attacks in the country during the festive season.
"The public is urged to provide information regarding their whereabouts but are warned that they are armed and dangerous," the police said in a security report received on Dec. 18.
The police said some of the 11 suspects have been trained on terrorism by Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia and are at large and planning terrorism at undisclosed places in Kenya.
