Pakistan's Federal Minister of Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar arrived in Beijing yesterday to attend AIIB inaugural meeting over the weekend.

Talking to Chinese media, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that initially there was skepticism about AIIB from some countries, about its role, yet Pakistan believed that AIIB would play a complementary role and AIIB is now a reality.

He said that Pakistan had been a great supporter of the idea of AIIB right from the beginning and that it will play a complementary role. This region needs roughly seventy percent of world’s global financing for infrastructure development.

Keeping in view the appetite and demand for infrastructure development in this region, AIIBs potential to bridge the need and supply gap of fund needed for infrastructure development in this region is tremendous. Since the signing of AIIB MoU to that of articles of agreement the process has been fairly positive and transparent and best international practices have been attempted to be followed. The process has taken a number of rounds on consultations.

During his China visit, Minister Ishaq Dar will also meet Chinese Finance Minister, the President of China Development Bank ( CDB), Vice President of Export and Import Bank of China(EXIM) and the Chairperson of Silk Road Fund.
