Chinese Foreign Minister meets US President

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has met with US President Barack Obama in Washington.

Wang Yi conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Obama, saying China is willing to work with the US to enhance high-level exchange and coordination when it comes to dealing with global challenges.

Wang Yi also said China supports the US to host the 4th Nuclear Security Summit scheduled for later in March in Washington.

For his part, Obama spoke highly of the bilateral cooperation on issues including the climate change.

He said he hopes President Xi Jinping will attend the nuclear summit in Washington.

Wang Yi is in Washington for his first US visit of the year. He earlier held talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry, with the South China Sea and the Korean Peninsula at the top of the agenda.
