Argentina's coast guard sank a Chinese fishing boat which was fishing in a restricted area off the South American country's coast on Monday.

Argentina's coast guard said in a statement on Tuesday that it fired on and sank a Chinese fishing boat which was fishing in a restricted area off the South American country's coast.

The incident happened Monday in the coastal waters of Chubut Province, with more than 30 crew members on board, said local media citing the statement.

No casualties were reported. The captain and three crew members were rescued by Argentina's coast guard while the remaining were taken on board by another Chinese vessel.

Argentinean authorities are in touch with the Chinese embassy concerning the matter, according to the statement.
