The United Nations on Friday again urged the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to exercise restraint after the country made a failed ballistic missile launch attempt earlier in the day.

While answering a reporter's question on the UN reaction to DPRK's missile launch, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said that "we are certainly aware of the recent report of the activity by the DPRK, which is alarming. We once again call on the DPRK to exercise restraint."

The DPRK sought to launch a ballistic missile, which is believed to be a medium-range Musudan missile, into its eastern waters early Friday, but the attempt appeared to have failed, according to Yonhap News Agency of the Republic of Korea.

In order to curb DPRK's nuclear and missile programs, the UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions, with the latest one adopted in March imposing the most severe sanctions on DPRK, including an export ban and asset freeze.
