A total of 13 Taliban militants were killed after Afghan special police force launched a night raid operation in eastern Logar province overnight, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

"Last night, Police Crisis Response Unit (CRU) conducted an anti-terrorism operation to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan. The operation was conducted in Pirokhil and Babus villages, Pul-e-Alam city capital of Logar province, as a result, 13 armed Taliban were killed," the ministry said in a statement.

The security force has confiscated one PK machine gun, one AK-47 rifle and some amount of ammunition as a result of the operation in the province, 60 km south of Afghan capital Kabul, according to the statement.

"One vehicle and one machine gun destroyed as well," it said.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants since early April after Taliban militants started their so-called annual spring offensive and stepped up attacks across the country.

The Taliban has yet to make comments.
