Sudan on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the Iraqi government and people until completion of liberation of Mosul from the Islamic State group.

"The foreign ministry is following with great concern the developments of the situations in sisterly Iraq after the Iraqi government declared beginning of the process of liberation of Mosul from the grip of the terrorist Daesh group," Sudan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

"The ministry would like to express Sudan's solidarity with the government and people of sisterly Iraq until the liberation of Mosul is completed, and hope that the highest degree of keenness would be observed to preserve the lives of civilians so as to form an important step towards restoration of security and stability," it said.

The Sudanese government urged the international community to live up to its responsibilities towards provision of support for the displaced people from Mosul and work to return them to their city after the end of the battles.
