Up to 149 insurgents including nine commanders have been killed and 116 others injured during the security forces operations over the past 24 hours, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"The Afghan security forces launched several military operations across the country, killing at least 149 insurgents including nine Taliban's commanders, three al-Qaida members and eight Islamic States (IS) fighters over the past 24 hours," the ministry said, adding that 116 more armed militants were injured.

The operations were conducted in parts of Nangarhar, Kunar, Nuristan, Kapisa, Wordak, Paktia, Paktika, Urozgan, Herat, Ghor, Kunduz, Faryab, Baghlan, Badakhshan and Helmand provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, the Afghan forces carried out 17 clean-up operations, 25 special operations and two night operations in 11 provinces within past 24 hours.

However, the ministry did not mention the possible casualties inflicted on security forces.
