KABUL, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered 73 kg of opium poppy and arrested three individuals on a charge of attempting to smuggle the contraband in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, said a news release of the provincial police office on Saturday.
The arrested individuals were attempting to traffic the contraband to Khakrez district, the news release said, adding that the personnel of counter-narcotics police identified and took into custody the alleged smugglers.
In a similar drive against illicit drugs, police have destroyed about 100 acres of poppy farms in Kasham and Argo districts of the northern Badakhshan province several days ago.
Police have arrested 21 alleged drug smugglers and discovered a quantity of illegal drugs, including heroin, hashish and opium poppy, from their possessions in eastern Khost province over the past two weeks, police said. Enditem
